Elastic Geobarometry for Anisotropic Inclusions in Anisotropic Host Minerals: Quartz?in?Zircon

چکیده
Current models for elastic geobarometry have been developed with the assumption that host and/or inclusion minerals are elastically isotropic. This has limited applications of thermobarometry to mineral inclusions contained in cubic quasi-isotropic (e.g., garnet). Here, we report a new model takes into account anisotropic properties and relative crystallographic orientation (RCO) host-inclusion system where both noncubic. can be used thermobarometric calculations provided RCO known. We then this numerically evaluate effects anisotropy on strains stresses quartz entrapped zircon after exhumation from known entrapment P-T conditions room conditions. conclude quartz-in-zircon is suitable may widely applicable crustal rocks. Our results demonstrate isotropic cannot determine entire strain state an mineral, therefore lead errors estimated remnant pressures.

Small Volume Asymptotics for Anisotropic Elastic Inclusions
We derive asymptotic expansions for the displacement at the boundary of a smooth, elastic body in the presence of small inhomogeneities. Both the body and the inclusions are allowed to be anisotropic. This work extends prior work of Capdeboscq and Vogelius (Math. Modeling Num. Anal. 37, 2003) for the conductivity case. In particular, we obtain an asymptotic expansion of the difference between t...
متن کاملElectrostatics of Anisotropic Inclusions in Anisotropic Media
There are many ways to solve potential problems for anisotropic mixtures. The nite element method is a popular choice with great exibility that gives the solution in the entire computational domain. EEective medium approximation is a simpler option that only estimates eeective properties. Interface integral equation methods is a third class of methods that has been studied for a long time, but ...
متن کاملAnisotropic elastic properties of microtubules.
We review and model the experimental parameters which characterize elastic properties of microtubules. Three macroscopic estimates are made of the anisotropic elastic moduli, accounting for the molecular forces between tubulin dimers: for a longitudinal compression of a microtubule, for a lateral force and for a shearing force. These estimates reflect the anisotropies in these parameters observ...
متن کاملMixed Interface Problems for Anisotropic Elastic Bodies
Three-dimensional mathematical problems of the elasticity theory of anisotropic piecewise homogeneous bodies are discussed. A mixed type boundary contact problem is considered where on one part of the interface, rigid contact conditions are given (jumps of the displacement and the stress vectors are known), while on the remaining part screen or crack type boundary conditions are imposed. The in...
متن کاملHomogenization methods for anisotropic linear elastic polycrystals
The elastic properties of uniform polycrystalline materials without defects depend on both the constitutive properties of the constituents and the microstructural characteristics like the distribution of grain orientations and grain shapes. For an overview concerning the homogenization of elastic properties see, e.g., [1]. The elementary bounds by Voigt and Reuss take into account only the volu...
